why do you always bag on the refs? They are the first line of defense in protecting the safety of the fighters...
I was expecting that you play this safety card. Next someone else will come up and tell that actually UFC refs are not employed by UFC but by some sort of commissions. Right... You always hide behind those two arguments when the refs make premature calls or other mistakes.
Anyway, if safety is the primary concern, why don't they call the fight after the first connecting punch or kick? That would be a very clear and unambiguous rule - and also safe as hell. I would not call that kind of competition fighting, though!
Notice the arms of Houston when the ref stepped in...He was completely knocked and was in no way protecting himself...
good call...Quick as hell but good call
Are you serious? This was the most ridiculous call I have seen in a while. Houston was protesting it, too.
I am not a Houston fan. It is good that he lost. But this kind of "fights" are so shameful. UFC should really pay some attention to their refereeing practice. Why do they hire complete idiots to act as the refs?
Look at his arms when the ref steps in and tell me he wasnt knocked...It was like he was Frankinstein and was in no way protecting himself...
And of course he would protest it every fighter does because of all the adrenaline pumping through his body...Even Rogan asks him twice regarding his arms up in the air ...
i say good stop. when you're concious (even when you're taking a rich franklin vs anderson silva ass beating) your body will naturally try to absorb impact. one punch while you're out could lead to serious injury. so yea, good call. if you're pissy about the fight its because you unfortunatly bought into the fad that was houston alexander. if you're still upset about the ref you should quit wasting your time with mma and pick up some ghetto brawl videos or you can leave your trailer and head down to the bar where i'm sure your mom is getting her weekly slaparound.

Obviously everyone but you agrees it was a good stop, so you lose.
Refs have the hard job of deciding whether the fighter is or is not INTELLIGENTLY defending himself, and getting KO'd counts as not intelligently defending himself, and thus was a good call, albeit a very quick match.
And yes, I did play a "safety" card, because what good is a disabled or dead fighter? Think before responding...

Well... If INTELLIGENCE is needed in order to qualify for a UFC match, then most UFC fighters should be disqualified immediately. And certainly this applies to Houston, if anybody! How come the ref didn't call the fight even before it had started?
You get more and more retarded with every post you make hep, the refs are not ufc refs, you see the same refs doing fights for other mma orgs. all the time. They are employed by the state athletic commissions. Also, I don't know many of the fighters in any mma organization that i could see doing my taxes or teaching any of my college classes so why would you just apply your broad generalization to just the UFC. Someday you may realize how retarded you are but i doubt it, so continue being an ignorant hater.

well one thing that's always fun to watch is an overrated fighter drop in the first seconds of the fight
houston is fun to watch, always goes for the big ko and that's cool, but since the thiago silva fight it's very clear he's incomplete. still a lot of people were going for him here, and WHAM! first punch lights out

Great! This was the second card. Now you guys have played both of your cards (safety and commission) and run out of arguments, right?
In your thinking UFC refs are beyond all criticism: Whatever stupid calls or other mistakes they make, they do it for the sake of safety. And anyway, they are employed by some kind of commission, so they are not responsible to anybody and nobody can supervise them. They are immune and untouchable.
Seriously, why does UFC collaborate with those "commissions" if their employees (called "referees") don't understand anything about MMA?
Three facts:
1. Houston was not cold, not limp.
2. He rose up immediately after the call.
3. He was protesting the call.
Similar thing happened in the Chuck-Rampuke fight. On the contrary, in the Chuck-Wanderlei fight, the ref did not call after Wandy knocked Chuck down. Why?

Three facts of my own:
1. Houston went limp and became stiff (hallmark of a knockout).
2. He wasn't defending in any way and only regained him composure after the ref had stopped the fight.
3. He was protesting the call because he didn't remember blacking out, he was frustrated, wouldn't you be?
Chuck was out cold against Rampage, his eyes were rolling, arms outstretched and stiff, not defending his ugly self. Against Wandy he recovered before the referee could clock that he was "out".
Stop being a dick, if you want a world where vast numbers of good fighters have to retire early because of the irrepairable damage that their brains have suffered due to a flawed system with bad refereeing then I suggest that you watch boxing instead.
