Yeah, the stoppage was completely justified. True, he wasn't out cold, but that's not what a stoppage is there for... after the huge liver kick, he went down, and was not about to do anything in that position except get pounded on by Franklin for about 20-30 punches. The stoppage just saved him a lot of pain/stitches/broken nose/whatever could have happened, and he definitely was not contesting the stop. Just goes to show you how much damage those liver kicks that Bas Rutten used to go on and on about in Pride can do.

Why the stoppage? The guy was far from being out, defended himself properly, and rose up immediately without any problem. I never cease to wonder how stupid and amateurish UFC referees really are.

They said he was also taping

to Roosterbrews,

The refs aren't employed by the UFC, the same refs work all MMA sanctioned events. The fight was stopped because the ref could tell that Mat was seriously hurt by the liver kick. It was a good stoppage. The ref is right in there and can see the look on a fighter's face, they can see it in their eyes if they want to continue or not.

Besides, this was a useless match anyway. Hamil, IMHO, didn't have the skills to go against someone of Franklin's caliber. I scratch my head at some of the match ups. I haven't seen anything from Hamil that would lead me to believe he will amount to anything in this sport. He has no defense, keeps his hands down too low, doesn't move his head, has no foot work, not even sure he knows how to kick properly. I've yet to see one fight from this guy that was actually impressive or showed any glimpses of what 'might be'.

Hughes was right, Hamil does remind me of him. A one-dimensional wrestler with lots of strength and heart. But that's it.

Still if Hamill Fought like he did against Bisping i always said he's a better wrestler then Rashad and i dont think Rashad could get up if Hamill started pounding down on him, on the otherhand Rich Franklin would make Evans his bitch its just so funny to see to Ultimate Finale winners go for the title while Rich Franklin is prolly a better fighter then both of them, Maybe not Forrest who is very good in all aspects but Franklin would deffinatly take care of that 17-0-1 Record of Rashads and turn it into 17-1-1 im sure of that

Man theres some mad rashad hate every where…. Rashad is great at what he does, I think that the rich franklin fight might be the best bet though as of right now… rich is a beast too.. other than Anderson silva franklin ha only lost to one other person… out of his almost 30 fight career now that’s sayin something…..

Regardless rashad is a force to be reckoned with intil someone dishes him his first lost…..

Good shit from franklin though… he seems much stronger and faster in the LHW division….. hammil got handled the whole time… even though rich looked “worse for the wear”…lol… still an outstanding guy man…..

Evans VS Franklin should be a brewin in the UFC’s brain right now… COME ONE JOE SILVA!!! Make it happen

I Never hated on Rashad man i just dont like when someone wins a fight and they jump on the bandwagon ya know.
There was noone saying Rashad had a chance but now that hes Won there all on his ass nah mean.
Rashad's a good prospect but i dont think he has what it takes to take on all commers at 205 common we got
Wandy, Machida, Sokodjou, Thiago, Franklin, Bonner, Rampage, Shogun, Forrest i mean common Rashad's a good fighter i just dont think hes great yet maybe if he beats like 3 or 4 of the above but he wont and he got somebullshit decision against Bonner he should allready have a loss that fight he ran like a coward and refused to trade str8 up refused i dont care if his stand up is better now he lost that fight go watch it and tell me he won

To me Franklin is way more talented than Chuck. World class striking...maybe he doesn't have the rare KO punches that Chuck has but his striking is far better than chuck's and he has never committed the silly mistakes that got chuck knocked out. Franklin uses his kicks..high kicks, body kicks...and has a good ground game, intelligent, very strong.

Don’t see Rashad having an opportunity against him..it could be a good fight to let people know that Rashad has been a lucky motherfucker up to this moment.

Rashad has great athleticism, I don't think he is a great fighter by any means, but he is better than average. I don't like the guy myself, I hate when a guy show-boats during a fight. He was doing it the whole time against Chuck, I was thinking "god damn chuck, knock him TFO dammit" and then boom Chuck's laying on the ground. Pissed me off. I didn't care who won going in to the fight, but like I said, I hate guys like Rashad that get all cocky in the ring.

Yeah but then again you probably didn’t see him having a chance against lidell either did you?? I don’t mind the showboating ya feel me … that’s just his style… I think the showboating throws people off… all the head and shoulder movement can be tricky to see whats a punch coming or a head fake ya feel me… rashad is a beast even if he loses his next 5 fights he’s already won 17 in a row**cough**even though most were nobodies**cough**

His will do good… the thing is he has a chin out of this world, he has stamina that is hard to match (though not impossible) and he has style and finesse when he fights… his ground and pound is great, his kicks are hard and now he’s shown us his punches can be just at lethal …. I think the only reason I like rashad is because everyone else hates him….

Franklin is equally a beast…. If not more so… I think that would be a great fight.. but I would rather see lidell-franklin for some reason… that’s a big payday for the UFC.. two of the most popular fighters going at it….

Rashad- Machida would be awesome… the battle of the undefeated’s… but we’ll see..

there was something mentally wrong with hamil this was not him in this fight very dissappointed with his performance an i bet his coaches and trainers were just as baffled as i was after watching this. he did like 2 take down attempts which is not what a olympic wrestler should do.

looks like he gave too much respect to franklin and didn't even want to fight him.

terrible.

Not to dig up any graves but.

Try to take 2 or 3 kicks to the stomache and then 2 or 3 to the legs from a world class striker, and see how comfortable you feel with your shot.

Franklin nuetralized and deflated the explosiveness of Hamill by paralyzing his key physiological elements. Legs, and abdomen. Hamill felt this and knew if he threw himself at franklins legs half-hazardly, he would undergo much more damage.

Genius job by franklin, destroying one of my favorite fighters.
