I think Machida is getting into his stride, while Tito isn't exactly taking his fighting career seriously. If Tito doesn't get his shit together, I feel that he will get picked apart. Oh, and Jenna isn't hot anymore Bt. She looks like one of those plastic surgery freaks from that movie A.I. lol I used to want to hit her guts, but now.....nah

First thing first.. I'm a tito fan.. BUT!!! Tito hasn't been tito for the pass couple of years. "HE IS A SUPER GREAT SHOWMAN". If the fight goes to the second round.... Tito will lose.. Tito comes out like a fire cracker...... LORD knows, I'm screaming like a MF @ the TV!!!!! GO TITO!!!!! BUT!!! When he gets in the second round........ Tito comes out and looks like a rookie.. For the last couple of fights when Tito is in the second round, all I scream is: FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully Tito wins..

Thank you again for this website. I could allllllllways count on you guys to post the fights..

Tito WILL win PostPosted : 15.05.2008, 10:07

Since this is his last contract fight with the UFC, Tito will give more that he has shown prior to this fight...I think he wants to destroy machida, throw it in Dana Whites face, and head to the Elite XC to avenge his loss to Frank Shamrock...Personally, I don't want this to happen since I like Tito, and I love the UFC...Guess we have to wait and see

i gotta agree with Hockeyrulz (at least what he said in that post!...).

Tito will try to prove a point (and stick it to Dana), but win, lose or draw- he's going... to EliteXC most likely.. and he's gonna have a re-match with Franky Shamrock! (which Tito will undoubtedly win).

Now, c'mon guys... I get sick n tired of reading the empty, narrow-minded posts.. where 'x will win'... 'x is so much better', etc... with no thought given to styles and scenarios in the fight... (im not too fussed about ppl thinking 'Machida is boring'- although i dont think he is, i find him intriguing).

Standing, both on the inside and the outside.. the advantage goes to Machida. In the clinch (no not the thai clinch.. the clinch, as in standing overhook/underhooks), the advantage goes to Tito. Tito can take Machida down, but Machida is dangerous off his back.. and has great balance... and great jiu-jitsu... extremely good functional jiu-jitsu and he can sweep Tito (he swept Sokoudjou for Christ's sake.. a worldclass Judoka, and like 99% of Judokai, TRSokoudjou has great balance... + pinning technique).

BJ Penn's assessment of this fight is perfect:

Quote:
Tito has a really good style for Lyoto. Lyoto hasn't been in the fence and Tito can get him there and really use those elbows and ground and pound. I think that's what it is going to come down to, Tito getting his game on getting those takedowns, stabilizing, making space and ripping those elbows down like in the old days. Should be a great night for him. Lyoto, he's got to do what he did to Sokoudjou. Lyoto is probably a little better in the trading, but Tito is always getting better with his stand up. Lyoto needs to work his Jui-Jitsu, sweep and work his way back up, but it's a tough fight. I think Lyoto has the same strengths as before but his jiu jitsu looks better and he was a tough guy then and he still is. He punches hard.

I think, either Machida will get taken down right away... or he will fend off Tito for a little a bit by not being there, being his elusive-self... and then coming in, trading and backing out. I expect Lyoto to hit the ground on his back more than once in this fight... but I do think Lyoto could surprise everyone and pull off a sweep n turn the tables on Tito!

If Tito gets Machida against the fence, wears him down and takes him to the ground... putting him on his back.. then Machida will have a hard time and it will all depend on his sweeps. Once Tito stabilizies.. ur F'd!

Machida is the Winky Wright of MMA. Not a 'defensive fighter' (it's fickle to say that..) but a fighter with great defense.. and a Manny Pacquiao-style straight left counter. He makes you miss and pay.. and he's very well-rounded. You could make a case for Machida being t10 p4p in MMA.

It'll be a great fight... I hope Machida takes it although he's definitely the underdog. I am however, going to predict a Machida win by Split Decision (although I'd love for him to shock the hell out of us, and sweep + submit Tito!).

Best of luck to Tito in the future... which could apparently involve this:

Quote:
I think Renato "Babalu" Sobral would be a great fight for me and I still think he's at the top of his game. Frank Shamrock is obviously a fight that people would love to see. You know, I would even move up in weight and take on Kimbo Slice or Fedor Emelianenko.

-Ortiz On Possible Future Opponents Outside Of The UFC

Like Sylvia, he provides a bad style match-up for Fedor... but Fedor is still strong favourite, should that fight ever materialize. Babalu-Tito is one helluva fight... I thought it'd never happen!

Tito better be part of some of those free saturday night fights on CBS.

You couldn't beat a free Kimbo vs Ortiz fight.

did you all see how much bigger Tito was than Lyoto at the weigh-in?
As with most 205ers... Tito probably walks around at 215-225 (in Tito's case i'm guessing around the 225 mark). Machida was 203lbs at the weigh-in, and as has been said before, he could easily make 185, and he'd be much more ripped!

Lyoto deserves everyone's respect for beating some big names at 205... and hanging with the big boys thus far (and looking like he will continue to do so). Like Wandy, he really should be a 185er!

I've been visiting this site for a while now, just to watch videos etc. But I finally felt like I had to make an account to talk to some of you people. I agree with you guys that Machida isn't the most exciting fights, but it's not like he just sits on the guy, he's always working for better positions, and he's always ground and pounding etc.... Give him some credit, he's fought some good guys like Bonnar, Penn, Franklin, and McDonald... we'll see. I'm goin' with Machida for this fight, cause I think Tito is washed up...

Damn just when I was starting to like you, you say Tito is washed up I know he used to be a better fighter but he still has it in him to win I know he can but not sure if he will he has different personalities in the ring the guy who is scared of Chuck(who lost to Jardine of all people) for some reason Chuck has his number. Machida don't hit like Chuck tho

Tito is not washed up. Dana actually said it right... Tito has the drive and determination to be great, just not the greatest in the world.

Machida-Chuck is an interesting fight... Machida has the movement and distancing to really cause Chuck problems standing... and then on the ground, Machida has a great advantage... I always say, mixed martial artists who can sweep a gi with relatively high %ages in no-gi MMA competition, they are REALLY dangerous! Chuck would be the favourite for obvious reasons, but Machida could well beat him! Y'all thought Jardine came out with a 'good game plan'.

Also, you are all fickle if you think Machida doesn't hit hard. His straight left counter is shockingly reminscent of Manny Pacquiao's own, it's like a bullet. And to quote BJ, "Machida kicks as hard as a mule"... - next time he kicks, listen carefully and watch. His kicks are AWESOME...

Machida is a counter-fighter and so is Chuck.. but they are very different.. and both can be said to have 'unorthodox' standup in the context of MMA.

I feel bad for Tito. It's kinda like watching Pernell Whitaker in his last days as a fighter. When you don't have it anymore you don't have it. The horrible takedown attempt is apparent that he's just not as quick or as good as he once was. Sure he could have some stellar fights but He just can't be considered top 10 anymore.

It's like watching Roy Jones Jr these days! lol.

Tito's not done. there are some interesting fights outside the UFC now..

Babalu Sobral is a tough tough fight (Babalu is vastly underrated)
Little Nog
Kevin Randleman
Ricardo Arona

then Kimbo at Heavyweight...

A Belfort re-match (two fighters who, by their own faults, are still good but not anywhere near as good as they had the potential to be!).

His heart is set on other things, though.

Machida on the other hand is a technician. The Winky Wright of MMA. They'll look to give him Thiago Silva, Rashad Evans (assuming Thiago and Rashad's match gets re-made), Chuck... or the loser of Rampage-Griffin. It's big fights from here on out for Lyoto!

oh and i told u he can hit hard! see him send tito to the floor? XD

I was gutted... still am. I wanted Tito to win so bad, mostly because I wanted to see the post-fight gloating to Dana but also because I like Tito. He's a really nice guy and he should have demolished Machida.

Props to Machida tho - that triangle was in tight but he hung in there with the belief that he'd eventually get out and he did - serious heart and guts shown there...

It'd be good if we could get a post-fight interview with Tito up, did Joe Rogan talk to him after the fight or was he rushed off? What happened after the finishing horn apart from Machida being given the decision?
